Customers are more technically savvy than ever and have come to prefer the DIY approach to solving their issues and answering their own questions. Years of research by ICMI has confirmed that customers prefer to resolve issues themselves and within their channels of choice. Furthermore, customers only seek direct interactions when they unsuccessfully exhaust their self-service options. This is backed up by data from American Express, which found that 48% of consumers prefer to speak with a customer service rep when dealing with complex issues, but only 16% prefer the same contact for simple issues. The goal of this paper is simple: We want to help you build an all-in-one knowledge base, community, and customer portal. All of which can be accomplished with a help center like Zendesk Guide.

As organizations develop next-generation applications for the digital era, many are using cognitive computing ushered in by IBM Watson® technology. Cognitive applications can learn and react to customer preferences, and then use that information to support capabilities such as confidence-weighted outcomes with data transparency, systematic learning and natural language processing.
To make the most of these next-generation applications, you need a next-generation database. It must handle a massive volume of data while delivering high performance to support real-time analytics. At the same time, it must provide data availability for demanding applications, scalability for growth and flexibility for responding to changes.

Although many organizations still use traditional storage appliances, they don’t offer the agility needed by containerized environments. Containers are highly flexible and bring incredible scale to how apps and storage are delivered; traditional storage can be the bottleneck that stops this progress. The underlying storage should be highly elastic, easily provisioned by developers and admins, and, ideally, managed using the same orchestration framework (like Kubernetes).
There’s a reason why web application firewalls have been getting so much attention lately. It’s the same reason we keep hearing about major security and data breaches left, right, and center. Web application security is difficult—very difficult.

How to think about the risk to data from the mobile ecosystem
Mobile devices, even those that are corporate owned, are personal. Your CEO uses the same smartphone to send confidential emails, snap family photos, inspect customer records, get directions to meetings, and scrutinize financial reports. Every employee in your organization does the same thing. Your organization's critical data is constantly being accessed by mobile devices, and once it leaves the network you have no visibility into where it goes, and little or no ability to enforce your security policy to protect it.
Your organization’s sensitive data has made the mobile ecosystem the new frontier for a wide spectrum of risk that every CISO must now understand. Take a deep dive into all twelve elements of the Mobile Risk Matrix in the interactive table below.

Since the theme of this brief is to keep things simple, let’s be as simple and plain as possible: The customer experience (CX) is broken because the marketer experience is broken.
However, it’s not entirely marketing’s fault. Legacy technology provides only a distorted view of the customer. That’s what creates the broken experiences. It’s the same technology that—while providing rich behavioral, demographic, and preference data—does not allow for silos of data to be shared across channels.

In a new study by Forbes Insights and sponsored by Oracle Marketing Cloud, 60% of brand and agency executives say their roles and responsibilities have changed significantly over the past two years. As a result, both groups are reengineering their internal organizations and forging new ways of working with their respective agency or brand counterparts. At the same time, the research found that technology is ingrained in marketing operations and, perhaps most
significantly of all, agency and brand stakeholders are challenging themselves to analyze and apply consumer data in more sophisticated ways. Some are even hiring data scientists and others outside of the traditional marketing discipline to help in these efforts.
Der Entwicklungsprozess wird mit zunehmender Komplexität mehr und mehr zum Schlüsselfaktor für Erfolg oder Misserfolg neuer Produkte. Wie aber bringt man Mechanik, Elektronik und Software optimal zusammen?
In today’s market, discrete manufacturers must stay focused on traditional objectives — increasing uptime and throughput in the plant and closely managing costs throughout their operations. At the same time, they must also create and offer more integrated products and services and even new business models to enhance the customer experience. These new offerings incorporate increasing amounts of technology — including Internet of Things. Indeed, by 2018, nearly one-third of industry leaders will be disrupted by competitors that are digitally-enabled. For manufacturers, this IDC white paper examines the current and future Internet of Things (IoT) imperative for the following discrete manufacturing industries: automotive, aerospace and defense, high tech, and industrial machinery. We highlight IoT-enabled scenarios — those possible both now and in an Industry 4.0 future with smart manufacturing.

A user initiates the call and selects the source language, such as Spanish. (In this example, assume that the target language is set to English.) As the user is talking to the support representative, the audio is converted to text using the Speech to Text service. Then using Language Translator, the text is translated to English.
English language text is then sent to the Text to Speech service as input. The output audio message is what the support representative hears. All of this happens in near real time. The text from Speech to Text and the Language Translator service also can be stored in a database for analytics. The same process is repeated in reverse for the audio message sent by support personnel.

In the not so distant past, the way we worked looked very different. Most work was done in an office, on desktops that were always connected to the corporate network. The applications and infrastructure that we used sat behind a firewall. Branch offices would backhaul traffic to headquarters, so they would get the same security protection. The focus from a security perspective was to secure the network perimeter. Today, that picture has changed a great deal.

Imagine the benefits that a VDI environment could realize during a boot storm. All the VMs are based on the same template, and therefore they all have the same set of files during initial boot. Normally, 100 VMs all booting at the same time would require a significant number of HDDs, but with this hyperconverged infrastructure platform, the first VM to boot reads the block off the HDD, which promotes that block into cache. Now the next 99 VMs can all access that same block from cache. That’s a 100:1 IOPS reduction on the IOPS-bound disks.
Microservices are a type of software architecture where large applications are made up
of small, self-contained units working together through APIs that are not dependent
on a specific language. Each service has a limited scope, concentrates on a particular
task and is highly independent. This setup allows IT managers and developers to build
systems in a modular way. In his book, “Building Microservices,” Sam Newman said
microservices are small, focused components built to do a single thing very well.
