Security threats are persistent and growing. While many organizations have adopted a defense-in-depth strategy — utilizing anti-virus protection, firewalls, intruder prevention systems, sandboxing, and secure web gateways — most IT departments still fail to explicitly protect the Domain Name System (DNS). But this Internet protocol doesn’t have to be a vulnerability.
Healthcare IT is in the midst of a revolution. Companies are facing massive cyber security challenges – many of which are rooted in the endpoint. In fact, according to IDC, 70% of successful breaches begin at the endpoint. If you are a McAfee customer, and still have breaches in your endpoint security, then something isn’t working. Perhaps you’re struggling to prevent advanced attacks, or your security team may be burdened by maintaining overly complex policies. You and your end users may even be facing performance issues.
If you are experiencing any of these challenges, then your endpoint security products may actually be creating more problems than they solve. Ask yourself these questions for a cybersecurity reality check.

Affecting over 200,000 machines in more than 150 countries, the ransomware known as Wanna Decryptor, or “WannaCry,” became the largest cybersecurity attack in history in May 2017. The malicious software locked out users from critical data, and demanded a ransom payment to unlock the contents. Governments, hospitals, and corporations scrambled to address the attack and prevent the infection from spreading. Ironically, the virus’ execution method was simple: it exploited a vulnerable Windows SMB protocol to spread – an exploit Microsoft had addressed two months prior to the attack with the release of a patch.

Medicaid fraud is prevalent, costly and difficult to prevent. With a combination of more integrated data and advanced analytics, state agencies can turn the tables on fraudsters. They can accelerate the transition from detection to prevention, as new forms of fraud are recognized faster and fewer improper payments go out the door.
This IIA Discussion Summary explores the challenges and opportunities in preventing Medicaid fraud in an interview with SAS’ Ellen Joyner-Roberson, Principal Marketing Manager for Fraud and Security Intelligence, and Victor Sterling, Principal Solutions Architect.
More account openings are taking place through digital devices and online, giving the access and anonymity fraudsters need to steal or fabricate identities. Since credit fraud often starts with a falsified application, it makes sense to have strong tools to monitor loans and credit lines from that point onward. This paper discusses analytics-driven methods for validating applications and spotting trouble at all three stages of bust-out fraud schemes.

As organizations are moving to AWS to gain the operational
efficiencies of the cloud, they’re realizing the
importance of a well-architected framework. This
framework, which consists of twelve pillars, is wellintended,
secure, and compliant, but is not exactly
easy to achieve.
Our clients frequently tell us that two pillars in particular--Security
and Cost Optimization--are the most
difficult to get right. This is partially because while
advanced tooling is required to manage cloud
complexities and compliance, selecting, deploying,
and operating these tools is costly and burdensome.
Without optimizing your environment for these two
pillars, you are preventing your organization from
scaling up. This has resulted in many businesses that
are restricted to a minimal use of AWS, negating any
benefit of having adopted the cloud in the first place.
AHEAD uses the AWS Well-Architected Framework,
which will walk you through common missteps and
how to get it right.

Enterprises and the threats that target them have all fundamentally evolved over the past decade. In response, the security industry has generated an enormous amount of point solutions and technologies to try and keep pace. However, for all of this innovation and change, the underlying enforcement architecture has remained largely unchanged.
A new modern approach to preempting threats is required. One that augments the existing architecture instead of replaces it. This new approach brings full enterprise and business context to real-time enforcement decisions. Identity, behavior, devices, anomalies, and risk all play a real-time role. Just as importantly, enforcement and access options can be graded based on the risk to the business, and policies can actively seek out and adapt to new information.
Organizations globally realize that working only to prevent and detect cyberattacks will not protect them against cyber security threats. That is why IBM Resilient® was developed: to arm security teams with a platform for managing, coordinating, and streamlining incident response (IR) processes.
IBM Security has had the privilege of working with organizations of all sizes and across all industries as they implement Resilient solutions to develop more sophisticated and robust incident response functions. These organizations build IR processes that are consistent, repeatable, and measurable, rather than ad hoc. They make communication, coordination, and collaboration an organization-wide priority. They leverage technology that empowers the response team to do their job faster and more accurately

Most of the public and its public safety professionals live and work in a digital world of mobile devices instant connectivity, and geo-location.
This one powerful fact, is changing the way police and first responders react to incidents and interact with the communities they serve. Types and severity of incidents are also changing, due in part to socio-cultural and environmental factors.
Complicated risk scenarios requiring inter-agency coordination are occurring in both urban areas and once-sleepy suburban towns. To perform in this volatile new reality, public safety is undergoing a digital transformation focusing more on predictive and preventive practices.

Organizations still struggle with communication between data owners and those responsible for administering DLP systems, leading to technology-driven — rather than business-driven — implementations.
Many clients who deploy enterprise DLP systems struggle to get out of the initial phases of discovering and monitoring data flows, never realizing the potential benefits of deeper data analytics or applying appropriate data protections.
DLP as a technology has a reputation of being a high-maintenance control — incomplete deployments are common, tuning is a never-ending process, lack of organization buy-in is low, and calculations of ROI are complex.
