When most people think of denial of service (DoS) attacks, they think of the large pipe-saturating distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks aimed at the network layer. However, attacks on website or application availability are not just volumetric in nature. Many attacks are designed to cause resource exhaustion somewhere in the application stack, the application servers, middleware, or back-end database.

Data security risk caused by third parties is a pervasive problem. Yet, many organizations granting remote privileged access to third-party users leave gaps that represent significant security risks. If you’re like most organizations today, you frequently grant vendors, contractors and other non-staff members access to internal networks and systems. These privileged users remotely administer your operating systems, databases or applications using their own endpoint devices. Download the eBook to learn the five best practices to control security risk brought on by third parties.

The advent of cloud computing and software-defined data center architectures for modern application delivery has made networking more sensitive than ever before. Applications in the digital age require networks that can expand and contract dynamically based on consumer demand. Enterprises are implementing software-defined networking (SDN) to deliver the automation required by these new environments, but the dynamic nature of SDN makes network management and monitoring fundamentally more challenging. Network infrastructure teams need monitoring tools that can provide visibility into these new and constantly changing networks. This white paper explores the importance of SDN monitoring and examines a leading example of a solution, CA Performance Management with CA Virtual Network Assurance integration.

The new generation of mobile devices, applications, and cloud services significantly improve agency efficiencies. Tasks that were once relegated to timeconsuming deskwork, are now performed in the field, and with improved accuracy. Because of this, more and more public safety agencies are adopting these new technologies. One purpose of the FBI’s CJIS Security Policy is to enable agencies to fully leverage mobile devices, but without sacrificing security. Mobile devices introduce a variety of new threat vectors and risks. Careful consideration of these risks is important to maintaining information security. Threats to mobile devices stem mainly from their size, portability, and available wireless interfaces. Examples of mobile device threats include: • Loss or theft of device • Unauthorized access to device • Mobile operating system vulnerabilities • Communication over untrusted networks • Malware or malicious Apps • Jailbreak or rooting activity • Data loss through user behaviors

This 10-point checklist outlines best practices for designing a security architecture that protects cloud data at the endpoint. Enterprise computing architectures have changed fundamentally in the last ten years, as employees consume an ever-growing collection of business cloud services through mobile apps. The traditional security approach of network perimeter and locked-down endpoints is not suitable for this app-to-cloud model of modern work.

In the PC era, employees operated from within a well defined enterprise IT perimeter and passwords were sufficient to establish user trust. However, in today’s mobile-cloud environment, the enterprise perimeter has dissolved and business information is available to users on a variety of endpoints, apps, services, networks, locations. In this dynamic access environment, organizations need a different approach to security that is able to: • Establish user trust using multiple factor authentication • Correlate user trust with other factors such as endpoint, app, network, and more • Apply adaptive, risk-based policies that match the user’s environment

"IT departments have to manage an infrastructure “duality” — the ability to deploy and manage two sets of applications, each with vastly diverse infrastructure requirements and service-level objectives. IDC found that by implementing next-generation apps on infrastructure designed for current-generation apps, such businesses risk putting their DX initiatives in jeopardy. HPE Synergy take key benefits of converged and hyperconverged infrastructure to the next level by operating on fluid (composable) compute, networking, and storage resource pools and are optimized for operations as well as applications. Increasingly complex networks, require more than a one-size-fitsall approach to ensuring adequate performance and data integrity. In addition to the garden-variety performance issues such as slow applications, increased bandwidth requirements, and lack of visibility into cloud resources, there is also the strong likelihood of a malicious attack. While many security solutions like firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDS) work to prevent security incidents, none are 100 percent effective. However, there are proactive measures that any IT team can implement now that can help ensure that a successful breach is found quickly, effectively remediated, and that evidential data is available in the event of civil and/or criminal proceedings.

One of the fundamental decisions in the design of data centers, server rooms and network closets is which uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to use. You cannot be certain that the power you receive from your local utility will be suitable for your equipment, or that it will always be available. And even when you are receiving good-quality power from the utility, equipment inside your facility (such as electric motors) can introduce power problems. A network/server UPS system conditions input power 24x7 to ensure that your equipment always receives reliable power and protection from damaging and disruptive power problems. A network/server UPS system also supports your equipment during power failures, providing enough battery backup runtime to outlast shorter outages. During longer outages, the UPS system will provide enough runtime to save files and gracefully shut down systems or to ensure that equipment is powered until standby generators are ready to support the load. To meet the growing challenges of a competitive world economy, a digital transformation is taking place in the enterprise. Organizations realize that to be competitive they need to be more agile. They need to reach their customers wherever they are, and they need to be able to scale their applications to meet customer demands. To meet these challenges, organizations are deploying new microservice applications that are changing the application delivery environment. These applications are agile, configured to enable new features to be added without disrupting applications in production, and designed to automatically instantiate instances in response to increasing user demand. In short, microservices are drastically changing the way that applications are deployed and managed. This introduces a high level of complexity to network infrastructures because traditional applications are not going away. Applications will continue to be designed for both microservices and traditional 3-tier imple

It used to be that you would build out your datacenter with all the right considerations in place, purchasing equipment that was sized to meet the needs of your organization for today and the near term future. Change used to be merely planning for capacity upgrades or network expansion, or migrating to the latest application version—or more simply put: things we could measure, control and manage. With the advent of the cloud, the rise in cyber-based threats, and the need to do more, faster, we’re witnessing a perfect storm that is making it more and more difficult for the enterprise to plan for change, and to maximize the investments that they make in their IT infrastructure today. This eBook will focus on considerations that you should make when deciding on an ADC solution that can not only survive these changes, but help create opportunities for innovation as the enterprise strives towards digital transformation. This guide will help you understand the changes that are currently unde

The world of IT is undergoing a digital transformation. Applications are growing fast, and so are the users consuming them. These applications are everywhere—in the datacenter, on virtual and/or microservices platforms, in the cloud, and as SaaS. More and more apps are now being moved out of datacenters to a cloud-based infrastructure. In order for an optimized and secure delivery of these applications, IT needs specific network appliances called Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs). These ADCs come in hardware, virtual, and containerized form factors, and are sized by Network Administrators based on the current and future usage of applications. The challenge with this is that it’s hard to foresee sizing or scalability requirements for these ADCs since users are constantly increasing, and applications are consistently evolving, as well as moving out of datacenters. Complicating matters, most ADCs are fixed-capacity network appliances that provide zero or minimum expansion capability
