"Nothing kills attacks earlier than DNS-layer security. Protection both before and during the attack Attacks have many phases. Before launching, the attacker needs to stage internet infrastructure to support each phase. Two early phases are to redirect or link to a malicious web domain or send a malicious email attachment. For the former, most attacks leverage exploit kits (e.g. Angler) as the first stage before dropping the final payload. Cisco Umbrella effectively blocks initial exploit and phishing domains.

For many organizations, the wide area network (WAN) infrastructure that connects an enterprise’s remote and branch offices has not changed for decades. Over the years, organizations consolidated many regional data centers into a few highly available data center locations which meant that remote locations had to connect to centralized applications over WANs and all internet traffic went through these data centers as well. This introduced bandwidth constraints and latency issues. The development in WAN optimization provided incremental and measurable improvement in WAN performance and provided some bandwidth cost containment. However, that technology typically was only deployed at the most problematic sites that struggled to achieve acceptable levels of performance and user experience. It did not solve all the issues with WAN connectivity. WAN infrastructure planning was limited to increases in capacity that were met by provisioning additional carrier MPLS (multiprotocol label switching)

Its the start of a new year and amidst the countless predictions flooding the internet, one things for certain 2019 is shaping up to be the year of cloud adoption. Analysts are expecting that enterprise adoption of cloud will ramp up significantly, but with this migration and the continued adoption of mobile and IoT technologies, the attack surface is changing dramatically and this has major implications for security. Fundamentally, security boundaries extend from on premises infrastructure to cloud service provider environments where perimeters no longer exist. Organizations cannot defend themselves with the same strategies and tactics that applied when it did. In this brave new world of cloud, IoT and mobile technology, organizations must be agile and shift, extend, and evolve their perimeter-based defense practices to those that are more robust. Further, a comprehensive defense in depth approach enables defense of high value assets amidst a more unpredictable cyber security landsca

Technology has drastically transformed the banking industry and the way in which consumers transact. Mobile banking is now the new normal. Many consumers, especially millennials prefer to do most if not all of their financial transactions via smartphone due to the convenience in which it offers. Even so, the popularity of mobile banking does not imply that the end of retail banking is near as research has shown that consumers still prefer retail banking for complex services such as loan applications, new account openings and advisory services. Download the whitepaper to learn— • How to build a bank of the future by leveraging the Internet of Things • How to increase security, ease system management and reduce operational costs • The benefits of migrating to a thin-client infrastructure and going paperless

To support business continuity, many organizations eagerly avoid putting all their eggs in one basket. Understanding the critical role of last-mile connectivity and always-available Internet access, savvy firms utilize redundant wide area network (WAN) and Internet connections from multiple service providers to ensure network availability in addition to load balancing. Despite the good intentions, their Internet connectivity risks may still be in a single basket. That is because internet service providers (ISPs) and competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) may operate using leased network infrastructure from the same incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC).

The all-encompassing data center is a thing of the past. Modern data environments are distributed and include remote and branch offices, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as cloud solutions such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). There’s more critical data to back up than ever before. Plus, data silos and fragmented management mean poor visibility, which can make it difficult to comply with regional data residency and security rules as well as service-level agreements (SLAs). On-premises data protection has not kept pace. According to a survey by Fujitsu, 45% of IT managers said they had lost data or productivity related to data protection inefficiency within the last year.1 Often, this is because on-premises backups are cumbersome and do not always happen on time.

In this book, we are going to look at the key trends driving the modernization of data infrastructure. We’ll see how organizations are adapting and flourishing in a data-driven world. For some time, headlines have been around the internet of things (IoT), big data and data analytics. While these developments are important, the reality is that you cannot take full advantage of them without modernization. We’re going to look at these trends and priorities in detail, then look at the three key drivers of modernization: governance, mobilization and analytics. We’ll also consider the technologies that make up modern data infrastructure including artificial intelligence (AI), flash storage, converged and hyperconverged platforms and software-defined infrastructures. By making sense of data, we make sense of the world. With more data than ever before, we have the tools to turn all that information into intelligent innovation and change the way the world works.

Cloud, social, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are increasingly central to business decisions as the pace of digitization accelerates. The impact of software-defined networking (SDN), virtualization, and converged and hyperconverged infrastructure within the datacenter is substantial. These technologies add complexity but offer enticing opportunities for new business models, revenue streams, operating efficiencies, and agility that organizations must pursue if they want to remain competitive and viable. This pursuit requires businesses to keep up with current and emerging technologies and applications and transform the ways in which they conduct business. At the core of "keeping up" is an organization's datacenter strategy — with an associated technology and services strategy that will either create industry laggards or accelerate innovators.

The fast-evolving digital landscape is changing the game for all organizations. The way we consume content, conduct research, consume video and music, and drive efficiency in our work environment is raising the bar for digital experience. Organizations that rely on the internet to reach customers and drive revenue increasingly turn to cloud-based infrastructure and content delivery networks (CDNs) to achieve the reach and global footprint needed to keep up with customer demands. Delivering these services with high availability and performance across an unpredictable internet over which you have very little visibility and control is a major challenge.
