AOS delivers powerful, intent-driven automation of network services in vendor-agnostic environments by delivering it as an easily consumable service in response to consumer-specified intent. Network devices serve packets, AOS services serve application workloads. According to numerous studies, 70-80% of outages are due to configuration change applied to a living system, and not due to initial deployment. Initial, one-time deployment can be seen as sort of a “hello world” application; the real complexities arise as the system evolves. With AOS, configuration, telemetry, and expectations are derived from the single source of truth - the intent - in an idempotent fashion, and as such there is no implementation difference between initial deployment or change management.

The response to the question “How is one Intent-Based Networking offering different than the others?” typically sounds subjective, descriptive, and open to interpretation. What is needed is a tangible, objective, and fact-based nomenclature that can help you rationalize the maturity of Intent-Based Networking solutions. Using this nomenclature, we should be able to map Intent-Based Networking solutions to a specific maturity level, starting with Level 0 (low maturity/incomplete) up to Level 3 which enables a fully capable Intent-Based Networking solution (mature/complete). Apstra introduced the notion of Intent-Based Networking and Self-Operating Networks™ in June of 2016, and in our blog “Intent Based Networking: What Is It” we provided a definition of Intent-Based Networking, listing capabilities that a complete Intent-Based Networking system needs to provide. The goal is to categorize maturity levels of various Intent-Based Networking implementations and enable network operators to

Today’s hosting provider can increase revenue by capitalizing on the growing demand of business customers for hosted online operations—provided, of course, that it can safeguard these critical operations against DDoS-related outages. Using the simple, step-by-step approach described in this paper, providers can model the financial impact of a DDoS attack on their operations and calculate the ROI of an effective DDoS defense solution.

Today, data volumes are growing exponentially and organizations of every size are struggling to manage what has become a very expensive and complex problem. It causes real issues such as: • Overprovisioning their backup infrastructure to anticipate rapid future growth. • Legacy systems can’t cope and backups take too long or are incomplete. • Companies miss recovery point objectives and recovery time targets. • Backups overload infrastructure and network bandwidth. • Not embracing new technologies, such as cloud backup, because there is too much data to transfer over wide area networks.

At Aria Systems we spend a lot of time thinking about the ways in which our technology contributes to businesses seeking to capitalize on the ever-changing ways to engage with customers. Our collective interest in the IoT and its organic overlay with a long list of monetization models should be self-evident if you’ve been reading this Internet of Things anthology series. As We embarked upon this e?ort it quickly became obvious that it would be a disservice to our readers not to elevate our thinking. We needed to go beyond what was strictly relevant to the IoT’s capacity for monetization and include perspectives that looked at the IoT from other angles.

Simply put, we want people to think a lot about the new age the IoT heralds. To that end, this post is the first in a series intended to explore the monetization of the IoT in some depth; i.e.,the Monetization of Things.
