VMware AirWatch® features a new – and more efficient – approach to Windows lifecycle management across any use case – whether deploying the OS to your remote workers, onboarding employees’ BYO machines, corporate deployments across your branch offices or managing a special line of business terminal. The unified endpoint management technologies fundamentally changes how organizations approach PC lifecycle management, allowing IT to deploy security patches and remediate vulnerabilities faster, install software more reliably and quickly and consolidate operational processes across devices on or off the domain.
For nearly a decade millions of users have leveraged the windows 7 operating system on their PCs.
Today, more than 100-plus million users rely on Windows 7. For these users, a new technology age is coming on January 14, 2020 when Microsoft officially ends extended support for Windows 7. Windows 7 end of life means that Microsoft is no longer required to put out security patches or support the operating system. This is significant news for thousands of security-conscious organizations and 100-plus million Windows 7 users who want to keep their machines and data protected.

Affecting over 200,000 machines in more than 150 countries, the ransomware known as Wanna Decryptor, or “WannaCry,” became the largest cybersecurity attack in history in May 2017. The malicious software locked out users from critical data, and demanded a ransom payment to unlock the contents. Governments, hospitals, and corporations scrambled to address the attack and prevent the infection from spreading. Ironically, the virus’ execution method was simple: it exploited a vulnerable Windows SMB protocol to spread – an exploit Microsoft had addressed two months prior to the attack with the release of a patch.
IT organizations are largely siloed between the desktop and mobile management worlds. IT has addressed management of mobile devices with modern enterprise mobility management (EMM) solutions. However, Windows desktops have been managed separately using older PC lifecycle management (PCLM) technologies, which have fallen short of basic IT and end user expectations of today’s evolved, mobile-cloud workforce.
The VMware AirWatch® Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution is a single, platform-independent approach for managing every device and every operating system across any organizational use case. The solution combines traditional client management requirements with modern EMM efficiencies enabling IT to deliver OS policies, patches, and apps over-the-air. Cloud-first management with instant push technologies and self-service capabilities ensure lower cost management, better security, and peak user experience regardless of the device being used to access the corporate environment.

Microsoft® will end support for Windows® Server 2003/R2 on July 14, 2015. This can have a dramatic impact on your business, because without any more updates or patches from Microsoft, your organization’s infrastructure will be less stable and secure.

Take a look at our cloud-first, modern Windows management and security solution that fundamentally changes how IT approaches PC lifecycle management. Join us to learn how unified endpoint management helps organizations lower the cost of managing Windows deployments; streamlines securing endpoints, apps and data on any network; and delivers peak user experience across any Windows device.
• Consolidate your Windows management across devices on or off the domain
• Deliver and install Win32 software more reliably and quickly
• Deploy security patches instantly and remediate vulnerabilities faster
• Unify your endpoint management functions across desktops and mobile
• First look at how organizations are using UEM for Windows 10
Many Windows applications are traditional x86/x64 apps, which can be several GBs in size. To package and deploy apps to remote worker and branch office endpoints, organizations mostly rely on costly distribution servers, which are both capital and labor intensive. New Windows Software Distribution capabilities in AirWatch create a more efficient and enterprise scalable deployment experience that reduces bandwidth, infrastructure, and labor costs.
• Manage the full lifecycle of Win32 apps - including deploying apps, dependencies and patches
• Eliminate the challenges of complex app packaging, unreliable app installs and recurring OS imaging with App Stacks delivery
• Distribute apps to remote and branch users with CDN and P2P capabilities and eliminate your distribution server footprint
• Deliver apps in a unified app catalog and provide a consistent single sign-on experience for the user
