It has been said that you can’t manage what you can’t measure, and you must measure what really matters. New service delivery models for IT service management, such as software as a service (SaaS), as well as emerging communications channels for support that include social media, will require some changes to the way you traditionally measure the effectiveness of your services. That’s why you should reexamine your service metrics as you begin to rely more heavily on SaaS, social media, and a more services-oriented approach to IT delivery.

Leading companies and technology providers are rethinking the fundamental model of analytics, and the contours of a new paradigm are emerging. The new generation of analytics goes beyond Big Data (information that is too large and complex to manipulate without robust software), and the traditional narrow approach of analytics which was restricted to analysing customer and financial data collected from their interactions on social media. Today companies are embracing the social revolution, using real-time technologies to unlock deep insights about customers and others and enable better-informed decisions and richer collaboration in real-time.

Digital currency is here. Consumers have demanded more choice in ways to pay merchants, move money to friends and access their accounts. Payment providers have done well to meet these expectations for immediacy and convenience in managing money. The convenience is great for account holders, but it requires financial institutions and merchants to apply fraud safeguards at the same speed, sometimes in less than a second. Each new accelerated service brings new risks.

Health insurers have long been plagued by issues of fraud, waste, abuse, error and corruption. Taking an enterprise approach to payment integrity – one that combines advanced data management and sophisticated analytics – can help payers detect and prevent fraud; effect positive change in how providers, employees and patients behave; and substantially reduce health care costs. Payers can achieve better outcomes when software support for the core disciplines of payment integrity run on a single platform.

Better health care at lower costs, for everyone – how do health care providers get there? Understanding the gaps in patient care, patient needs, and the geographic distribution of the patient population are important elements to consider when making decisions about improving the quality of care and reducing its costs. To effectively analyze gaps in patient care, the data needs to be in a single place or system. However, in many organizations, data is spread across a myriad of spreadsheets and database systems. Data not organized for visual exploration and coherent analysis isn’t useful for decision making. Hence the need for visually appealing and scalable analytical tools to help organizations be more efficient, effective and economically successful.

Imagine: Your pharmaceutical or medical device has been tested in carefully designed clinical trials and shown to meet required standards of efficacy and safety. It has gained regulatory approval and has gone to market. Now you want to know, does it measure up to its promise when used in the real world? Does it materially improve patient outcomes? Does it outperform alternative therapies? Does it achieve these outcomes at an appropriate value? Do you know which patients are most likely to benefit from it? Can you prove it, with statistical rigor? As the health care system moves toward a patient-centric, value-based approach, questions such as these are getting heightened scrutiny from all angles – from regula- tors, payers, providers and patients. And they should. Real-world evidence (RWE) can provide new insight into the benefits, risks and cost effectiveness of medicines and medical devices in actual use – evidence that can enable life sciences companies to develop better therapies

Part 2 in our Partnering with Certainty Webinar Series, "Customer Demands at the Edge." In our last webinar, we discussed how trends & technologies like IoT and its many applications have helped drive an Always On, Always Connected mentality that has completely evolved customer experience standards. These demands are driving a need for resiliency in local edge environments, meaning compute & storage capacity is now coming back on premise for many applications – especially in industries like Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education. In other words, this highly distributed access layer is now becoming a compute layer – one that is mission-critical to delivering a flawless (or at least acceptable) customer experience. These environments are often make-shift wiring closets (janitor’s closets, back rooms, etc.) with no dedicated IT staff per each location. More than ever before, Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education customers are turning to solution providers to be that “dedicated IT staff” to find and fix problems before they start, so that the customer (or patient, or student) experience they’re working to provide remains a good one. To win the colocation race you need to be faster, reliable, innovative and efficient –all while making smarter design choices that will ensure positive returns. Customers are demanding 100% uptime and always-on connectivity –be it small enterprises to large Internet Giants–and colocation providers need to meet these expectations. The growing adoption of prefabricated data centers allows just that. With the undisputed benefits of prefab modules and building components(like speed or quality),colocation providers can manage their business today, and deploy faster in the future. Chris Crosby, CEO for Compass Datacenters, is well-known for his expertise in the data center industry. From its founding in 2012, Compass’ data center solutions have used prefabricated components like exterior walls and power centers to deliver brandable, dedicated facilities for colocation providers. Prefabrication is the central element of the company’s “Kit of Parts” methodology that delivers customizable data center solutions from the core to the edge. By attending this webinar, colocation providers will: • understand the flexibility and value delivered via the use of prefabricated construction • Hear the common misperceptions regarding prefabricated modules and data center components • learn how prefabricated solutions can provide more revenue generation capability than competing alternatives • know what key things to consider when evaluating prefabricated data center design

New digital technology now makes it feasible to integrate process control and SIF within a common automation infrastructure. While this can provide productivity and asset management benefits, if not done correctly, it can also compromise the safety and security of an industrial operation. Cybersecurity and sabotage vulnerability further accentuate the need for securing the safety instrumented system (SIS). Certainly, a common platform approach using similar hardware and software dedicated for control and safety functions, respectively, can provide the potential for cost savings. However, it is widely acknowledged that utilizing separate, independent, and diverse hardware/software for safety and control is the optimal way to protect against potentially catastrophic common cause and systematic design and application errors. Different vendors offer varied degrees of integration and solutions. The question is: how to provide an integrated control and safety solution with advanced functionality and productivity without compromising safety and security? And, where do users draw the line? A third-party (e.g., TÜV) certification of the hardware/software systems to IEC 61508 specifications carries significant advantages, but should this be the only criterion? How does a third-party certificate extend to the plant’s overall assignment of risk reduction credits for all independent protection layers (IPL)? Control system embedded safety logic solvers may actually increase the SIL requirements of the SIF if no credit is allowed for the distributed control system (DCS) as an IPL. Download the white paper to learn more.
