The way we produce and consume energy globally is changing. Over the next decade, the energy mix will undergo a significant shift at both a supranational and domestic level as we work towards a cleaner future. By 2030, the offshore wind power market is expected to be worth £30 billion per year. Fast forward to 2050 and the industry is projected to contribute to at least a third of the total global electricity supply. While this is great news for power generation companies, recent research has showed that the costs associated with maintaining wind farms will double between 2015 and 2020. To secure its place in the future energy mix, protecting a wind turbines value and output through effective maintenance will prove critical to achieving a competitive edge. There are steps that can be taken now, to reduce maintenance costs today and keep them lower in the future. Shell Omala S5 Wind 320 – advanced synthetic wind turbine gear oil that can help to ensure your wind turbines work harde

Keeping the lights on in a manufacturing environment remains top priority for industrial companies. All too often, factories are in a reactive mode, relying on manual inspections that risk downtime because they don’t usually reveal actionable problem data. Find out how the Nexcom Predictive Diagnostic Maintenance (PDM) system enables uninterrupted production during outages by monitoring each unit in the Diesel Uninterrupted Power Supplies (DUPS) system noninvasively. • Using vibration analysis, the system can detect 85% of power supply problems before they do damage or cause failure • Information processing for machine diagnostics is done at the edge, providing real-time alerts on potential issues with ample of lead time for managers to rectify • Graphic user interface offers visual representation and analysis of historical and trending data that is easily consumable

European energy markets are undergoing many changes in order to adapt themselves to dynamically-evolving market conditions. Renewable generation capacity continues to rise in the Western European market, bringing more intermittency to the power system. Meanwhile, conventional power plants, fuelled by coal, lignite or uranium, are being decommissioned more often among western countries, affecting the security of supply and reserve margin levels. These changes need to be introduced and maintained by system operators, and each country has a slightly different approach to the challenges. To find out more, download this whitepaper today!

Although typically thought of as an artifact of legacy computing, batch processes remain vital to today’s real-time enterprises. Behind the real time systems that power the real time enterprise, such as customer order fulfillment, account management, supply chain scheduling and optimization, or financial trading systems, are regularly-updated back office business systems. Over the years, batch technology has evolved from script-based automation to rules or policy-driven workload automation.

As wattages increase in high-density server racks, providing redundant power becomes more challenging and costly. Traditionally, the most practical solution for distributing redundant power in 208V server racks above 5 kW has been to connect dual 3-phase rack PDUs to dual power supplies in each server. Although this approach is reliable, it negates a rewarding system design opportunity for clustered server applications. With their inherent resilience and automated failover, high-availability server clusters will still operate reliably with a single power supply in each server instead of dual power supplies. This streamlined system design promises to reduce both capital expenditures and operating costs, potentially saving thousands of dollars per rack. The problem is that dual rack PDUs can’t distribute redundant power to a single power supply. An alternative approach is to replace the dual PDUs with an automatic transfer switch (ATS) connected to a single PDU, but perfecting an ATS tha

One of the fundamental decisions in the design of data centers, server rooms and network closets is which uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to use. You cannot be certain that the power you receive from your local utility will be suitable for your equipment, or that it will always be available. And even when you are receiving good-quality power from the utility, equipment inside your facility (such as electric motors) can introduce power problems. A network/server UPS system conditions input power 24x7 to ensure that your equipment always receives reliable power and protection from damaging and disruptive power problems. A network/server UPS system also supports your equipment during power failures, providing enough battery backup runtime to outlast shorter outages. During longer outages, the UPS system will provide enough runtime to save files and gracefully shut down systems or to ensure that equipment is powered until standby generators are ready to support the load. Data centers are large, important investments that, when properly designed, built, and operated, are an integral part of the business strategy driving the success of any enterprise. Yet the central focus of organizations is often the acquisition and deployment of the IT architecture equipment and systems with little thought given to the structure and space in which it is to be housed, serviced, and maintained. This invariably leads to facility infrastructure problems such as thermal “hot spots”, lack of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) rack power, lack of redundancy, system overloading and other issues that threaten or prevent the realization of the return on the investment in the IT systems.
