Millennials are reshaping the world of work through their knowledge of new technologies, work habits, and attitudes of the 21st-century workplace. At the same time, IT departments are working to add flexibility to the way they are supporting the Millennial worker. Yet it’s not just about IT providing the right tools and devices to its employees so they can get their jobs done effectively; IT needs to offer an overall workplace ecosystem that is secure and innovative. However, there are worrying gaps between what IT provides and what the different types of workers need.

New technologies and trends are changing the very definition of an enterprise, how and where we work, and the tools we use to do our jobs. These trends include:
Because English is the default language of global business, success depends on employees who can communicate and collaborate effectively in this common language. In fact, new research from the CEB shows that as much as 50% of successful performance now depends on collaboration (up from 20% ten years ago), making this a more urgent issue. However, most employees (93%) working in multinational companies do not have sufficient English skills to adequately perform their jobs. In this e-book, we discuss several factors that are creating greater challenges for hiring managers in 2015, including rising employment (meaning more competition for those hard-to-find candidates), scarcity of key skilled workers, and a rising number of people who say they plan to look for new jobs this year.
Throughout the twentieth century, the efficiency of real estate
portfolios was quantified primarily in terms of a building’s
cost per square foot and the average number of “usable square
feet” it provided for each person who worked in it. By these
measures, the workplace contributed to an organization’s
bottom line by (1) getting smaller and/or (2) fitting more
people into the same amount of space.
Meanwhile, mobile technologies and new economic and social
pressures ushered in new ways of working. By 2011, more
than 60 percent of large organizations worldwide had
implemented programs and practices that gave people more
choice about where, when, and how to do their jobs.2 But

person,” “desk-sharing ratios”) have emerged, the focus on
reducing direct costs (through allocating fewer square feet

Employee networks have grown accordingly, offering access to structured career data through sites like LinkedIn in particular, and unstructured data through networks like Facebook.
