When a company sells services to a consumer audience primarily through a Web user interface (UI), that Web UI had better be online and available, all the time, especially if you are an airline. Such is the real-world scenario that faces Chris Skretowski, Linux Specialist at Devon, United Kingdom-based Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline.
Despite being a relatively small IT function, it powers a regional airline with over 1,700 employees and 55 aircraft, and the company has big ambitions, driven top down by a new CEO who believes that technology adoption and use can make a real difference in the company's bottom line. Having a board that is supportive of IT as a strategic business driver means there is lots of open air ahead for Skretowski, who is responsible for all the Linux infrastructure that front ends the company's missioncritical Web presence.
Flybe was one of the 21 companies that were interviewed for quantitative results on their operations as part of an IDC ROI analys

Your enterprise needs the ability to identify all duplicative or outmoded IT and business applications, services and other resources, and then to consolidate those worth keeping, migrate those worth updating, and retiring the rest. And that consolidation delivers multiple business benefits. Key among these: a single interface to multiple tools and resources, and more agile global operations. With the right practices, policies and technology platform, your enterprise can accomplish these goals in ways that accelerate growth, cut costs and complexities, and enhance competitiveness.

The new generation of mobile devices, applications, and cloud services significantly improve agency efficiencies. Tasks that were once relegated to timeconsuming deskwork, are now performed in the field, and with improved accuracy. Because of this, more and more public safety agencies are adopting these new technologies.
One purpose of the FBI’s CJIS Security Policy is to enable agencies to fully leverage mobile devices, but without sacrificing security. Mobile devices introduce a variety of new threat vectors and risks. Careful consideration of these risks is important to maintaining information security. Threats to mobile devices stem mainly from their size, portability, and available wireless interfaces. Examples of mobile device threats include:
• Loss or theft of device
• Unauthorized access to device
• Mobile operating system vulnerabilities
• Communication over untrusted networks
• Malware or malicious Apps
• Jailbreak or rooting activity
• Data loss through user behaviors
The focus of modern business intelligence has been self-service; pushing data into the hands of end users more quickly with more accessible user interfaces so they can get answers fast and on their own. This has helped alleviate a major BI pain point: centralized, IT-dominated solutions have been too slow and too brittle to serve the business.
What has been masked is a lack of innovation in data modeling. Data modeling is a huge, valuable component of BI that has been largely neglected. In this webinar, we discuss Looker’s novel approach to data modeling and how it powers a data exploration environment with unprecedented depth and agility.
Topics covered include:
• A new architecture beyond direct connect
• Language-based, git-integrated data modeling
• Abstractions that make SQL more powerful and more efficient
Cyber attackers are targeting the application programming interfaces (APIs) used by businesses to share data with customers. Consumer mobile adoption, electronic goods and services, and high volumes of data have led businesses to use APIs for data exchange. Unfortunately, attackers can also use APIs to access or deny service to valuable data and systems.
This white paper explores strategies for protecting APIs. You’ll learn about APIs, how and why these endpoints are targets for web application attacks, security models, and how Akamai can help.

Organizations are at a strategic crossroads. According to IDC analysts,1
two-thirds of CEOs will
center their corporate strategies around digital transformation initiatives. The goal of digital
transformation is only partly to make existing functions more effective. The greater goal is to be
able to do new things and use existing data in new, better ways.
Yet, 72% of current IT spending2—and the focus of IT resources—is on maintaining existing
systems. This creates tension between what needs to be done today and what should be done
for the future.
Middle-tier applications, according to IDC,3

Business demands a single view of data, and IT strains to cobble together data from multiple data stores to present that view. Multi-model databases, however, can help you integrate data from multiple sources and formats in a simplified way.
This eBook explains how organizations use multi-model databases to reduce complexity, save money, lessen risk, and shorten time to value, and includes practical examples. Read this eBook to discover how to:
Get unified views across disparate data models and formats within a single database
Learn how multi-model databases leverage the inherent structure of data being stored
Load as is and harmonize unstructured and semi-structured data
Provide agility in data access and delivery through APIs, interfaces, and indexes
Learn how to scale a multi-model database, and provide ACID capabilities and security
Examine how a multi-model database would fit into your existing architecture
Learn about the four benefits of interactively creating, running, and evaluating high-performance analytic models and see how this will allow your organization to get a fast, interactive interface without all the tedious experimentation.
While Oracle Hyperion remains a market leader in EPM software, that role comes with a hefty price tag and poses some hidden risks that have companies that use it re-evaluating their planning, budgeting, and consolidation needs. Whether used individually or together as an EPM suite, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and Hyperion Planning burden finance departments with a high cost of ownership, from server costs and consultants to dealing with the complex integration between products and the different interfaces.
As Oracle Hyperion users start to evaluate the cloud, they need to be aware of how benefits of the cloud-based EPM solution compare to on-premises software. We’ve compiled this information to a) help you better understand the full costs and potential risks associated with Oracle Hyperion and b) offer guidance as you evaluate cloud-based options.

Join Aviatrix for a discussion of next-generation transit hubs that are purpose-built to treat the network as code, rather than as a virtualized instance of a data center router. Learn how a software-defined approach can transform your AWS transit hub design from a legacy architecture exercise into a strategic infrastructure initiative that doesn’t require you to descend into the command-line interface and BGP of the IT networking world.
As part of our fact-filled AWS Bootcamp series, Aviatrix CTO Sherry Wei and Neel Kamal, head of field operations at Aviatrix share the requirements that our most successful customers have insisted upon for their Global Transit Networks, and demonstrate the key features that deliver on those requirements.

A leader in WCM since circa 2006, SDL arguably produces the most functionally robust enterprise platform in the industry, with particular strengths in multi-channel marketing, globalization, translation management, and brand management. Based on a heterogeneous technical infrastructure, the product can be tricky to implement, but global, enterprise-wide deployments often require the fine-grained configurability of a such a solution. Non-technical business users (online marketers in particular) seem to adopt the product readily, and they consistently give its polished user interface high marks.
