Today’s organizations are becoming more innovative and dynamic by adopting mobility, IoT, analytics and cloud technologies. With this, come growing demands for network scale, agility and threat protection which call for an intent-based network. The Cisco® Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA) gives you comprehensive intent-based networking across your campus, branch and WAN with robust wired, wireless, and routing solutions.
Edison has followed the development and use of Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) over the past five years. Cisco ACI delivers an intent-based networking framework to enable agility in the datacenter. It captures higher-level business and user intent in the form of a policy and translates this intent into the network constructs necessary to dynamically provision the network, security, and infrastructure services.
Intent-based networking is the difference between a network that needs continuous attention and one that simply understands what your organization needs and makes it happen. It’s the difference between doing thousands of tasks manually and having an automated system that helps you focus on business goals. Cisco® Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA™) is your team’s bridge to an intentbased network. It is an open, extensible, software-driven architecture that accelerates and simplifies your enterprise network operations, while lowering costs and reducing your risk. Only Cisco provides a single network fabric that is powered by deep intelligence and integrated security to deliver automation and assurance across your entire organization at scale. Cisco DNA gives IT time back from time-consuming, repetitive network configuration tasks so you can focus on the innovation your business needs. Cisco DNA automation and assurance are built on a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) controller, ri

Cisco has recently unveiled its new intent-based networking strategy, called "The Network. Intuitive." The goal of intent-based networking is to allow greater levels of automation, security integration, and centralized manageability within a software subscription orientation. Intent-based networking is underpinned by Software-Defined Access (SDA), Cisco's automation engine built upon the company's Digital Network Architecture (DNA), which automates network segmentation, policy enforcement, and troubleshooting. Other core components of the announcement include a refresh of Cisco Catalyst switches, a new licensing model for infrastructure, and an all-in-one management console called DNA Center.
Cisco DNA takes a software-delivered approach to automating and assuring services across your campus, WAN, and branch networks. Based on an open and extensible platform, DNA allows you to build value on the network, so you can streamline operations and facilitate IT and business innovation.
Customers and partners, and recently investors ask the question “How is one Intent-Based
Networking (IBN) offering different than the others?” And more often than not I hear answers that
sound subjective, descriptive, and subject to interpretation. What is needed are tangible, fact-based
nomenclature that can help you reason about the maturity of IBN solutions. Using this nomenclature,
we should be able to map IBN solutions to an IBN maturity level, starting with Level 0 (low
maturity/incomplete) and going up to Level 3 which enables a fully compliant IBN solution
This in-depth white paper explains how service providers are capitalizing on Intent-Based Networking — a new and effective networking model that provides a way of abstracting an application, feature, network, or resource in such a way that the intent is exposed, but the implementation is hidden.
You may have read in the news about horrific security gaps that have the potential of bringing down whole infrastructures, leaking critical business and personal data, and exposing organizations to massive liability.
There is no question that improving organizations’ security posture is a critical requirement for infrastructure and security teams.
The response to the question “How is one Intent-Based Networking offering different than the others?” typically sounds subjective, descriptive, and open to interpretation. What is needed is a tangible, objective, and fact-based nomenclature that can help you rationalize the maturity of Intent-Based Networking solutions. Using this nomenclature, we should be able to map Intent-Based Networking solutions to a specific maturity level, starting with Level 0 (low maturity/incomplete) up to Level 3 which enables a fully capable Intent-Based Networking solution (mature/complete).
Apstra introduced the notion of Intent-Based Networking and Self-Operating Networks™ in June of 2016, and in our blog “Intent Based Networking: What Is It” we provided a definition of Intent-Based Networking, listing capabilities that a complete Intent-Based Networking system needs to provide. The goal is to categorize maturity levels of various Intent-Based Networking implementations and enable network operators to
