FORECASTER GUIDE | MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS 2
What does it look like when all workers at your manufacturing facility can communicate and coordinate
seamlessly from any location, device or network? The time is NOW to imagine a world where devices, networks, and
locations don’t matter. A world where workers from production lines, to plant managers, engineers, security and beyond can
communicate effortlessly and instantly, both on and offsite.
A Unified Team Communications solution from Motorola Solutions is what’s NEXT for your facility to make this all possible.
This guide was created to help you experience how each and every staff member can work smarter, safer, and minimize
unwanted downtime when equipped with intelligence driven communications solutions.
See how Unified Team Communications powers the collaboration between all these workers to
create the next-generation in smart connected manufacturing:
When it comes to worker safety, efficiency and production, nothing is
faster than right now. Organizations across various energy segments —
oil, gas, petrochemical, electric utilities, water utilities and mining — are
currently juggling a mix of communications solution devices and are
hindered by gaps in coverage, poor battery life and fragile equipment
that cannot withstand harsh environmental conditions. The power of
now puts instant communications at your workers’ fingertips — because
when communication slows, operation slows.
Citizens rely on their homes being heated in the winter, clean running
water and lights that turn on when they flip the switch. Meeting these
expectations requires reliable, clear voice and data communications for
energy workers day-in and day-out. So workers can communicate safely
in hazardous environments. So precious resources are not wasted and
efficient operations are maintained. So energy companies can continue
to exceed expectations.
At Motorola Solutions, our purpose is simple; we create mission-critical
communication solutions to help our customers build safer cities and thriving
communities. That’s why we recently acquired Avigilon, an industry leader in
video, access control and video analytics solutions, in our ongoing effort to
provide trusted security solutions to our customers to help them be their best in
the moments that matter.
In the modern world of utilities, when it comes to providing electricity to
light the family kitchen, transporting clean drinking water across many miles
to the tap, or delivering the natural gas that heats the oven — everything
must follow a process. At the frontline of ensuring these processes remain
consistent, is having the ability to instantly know when an incident occurs that
can disrupt the critical work that needs to be done.
Avigilon access control and video management software is available to help
utility operations ensure their critical processes are protected, so servi
We live in a data-driven world where businesses
increasingly expect data to flood through their networks
at optimum speeds to do their jobs better, smarter, and
faster. Today, 75% of the workplace is said to be the
millennial generation(1), and many believe that millennial
workers are addicted to the “instant gratification”
phenomenon. This is a generation that grew up with
texting, instant messaging, social media, and more, all at
their service to deliver conversations and information in
an instant. As the speed of our data-driven world
continues to increase, so are the expectations of
workers whose jobs rely on instant data-driven communications.
With the growth of unstructured data and the challenges of modern workloads such as Apache Spark™, IT teams have seen a clear need during the past few years for a new type of all-flash storage solution, one that has been designed specifically for users requiring high levels of performance in file- and object-based environments. With FlashBlade™, it addresses performance challenges in Spark environments by delivering the consistent performance of all-flash storage with no caching or tiering, as well as fast metadata operations and instant metadata queries.

In today’s global economy, companies are increasingly distributed. That puts IT in a precarious position, especially when it comes to disaster recovery. It can take days to restore branch operations. Branch converged infrastructure delivers local performance, stores data safely in the datacenter, and enables instant recovery.

With more powerful software and hardware, SteelFusion 4.0 consolidates all IT at the branch into the data center for instant branch provisioning and recovery, full security and visibility, and apps that simply work.
The concept of all centralizing all communication methodologies (presence, instant messaging, voice, video, and messaging services) within a single system, a.k.a. unified communications or UC, is not new. One of the most popular platforms is Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft has indicated that it has 110 million Skype for Business or Lync users around the world.
However, many organizations have yet to fully embrace the video conferencing capabilities available within Skype for Business / Lync. Overall we view Skype for Business (SfB) video conferencing as an excellent choice for sessions involving only SfB users. However, the SfB experience is focused more on content sharing and less on live video.
Download this whitepaper to learn 12 situations in which users may wish to use a different video conferencing tool. In this paper, Wainhouse also compares two options for companies seeking better video capabilities.

It’s easy to underestimate the performance and capacity requirements for VDI storage, and missteps now can lead to expensive problems later. In “Risk-Free Storage for VDI,” you’ll learn how Nimble Storage delivers responsive performance to handle peak VDI workloads, integrated data protection, and instant backups and restores—all for dramatically less than you’re paying now.

Effective, engaging collaboration that leverages video conferencing should incorporate features like content sharing, clear participant rosters, easy call management controls and Instant Messaging. But, according to Microsoft research, some 97 percent of meeting rooms aren’t adequately equipped to handle video.
In fact, a majority of these rooms host the most rudimentary of collaboration solutions like a digital projector and an audio connection for conference calls. And, while most of these enterprises are adopting Skype for Business for end-users, the reality is that many of their conference rooms lack the ability to connect to Skype for Business calls, which eliminates effective collaboration tools like video and content sharing.

Do attitudes to IT adoption vary depending on your seniority within a business? And could this be holding back adoption of technology? These are key questions explored in this paper, which compares the views of mid-level ‘hands on’ IT managers with those of senior directors within British companies.
Across both groups, there is a sense that UK business in general is too wary of implementing new technology.
But there is a significant divergence of opinion when it comes to a range of factors, such as the extent to which companies invest in new technology, stay on top of the latest tech, and understand its importance to the success of the business.
A pattern emerges, whereby the senior leaders within companies are far happier than middle managers with the status quo around technology adoption. And IT managers even suggest that this might be driven by self preservation on the part of senior leaders.

For any business that wants to successfully compete in today’s digital economy, it is not a question of if but rather how much of their business will be done with cloud applications.
A cloud application is one with many endpoints including browsers, mobile devices, and/or machines that are geographically distributed. The application is intensely transactional (high velocity reads and/or writes), always available, and instantaneously responsive no matter the number of users or machines using the application.

Explore the core database requirements that make businesses successful with cloud applications, which include continuous availability, linear scale, and geographic distribution.

Mobile devices help clinicians improve the quality of patient care and save lives by improving staff communication and collaboration, and by providing instant access to a wealth of mission-critical information — from real-time lab results to a change in a patient’s condition or verification of the “5 rights” of medication administration at the patient bedside. In addition, mobility also helps healthcare organizations comply with important governmental and regulatory safety standards, without tasking an already overburdened nursing staff with additional paperwork. This white paper provides guidance for planning and implementing a clinical mobility solution in today’s healthcare environment, including a five-step roadmap to help key stakeholders identify needs.
