Sebasticook Valley Health’s Emergency Department found that when it came to obtaining medication history, DrFirst’s MedHx(SM) solution provided vast improvements over the built-in feed from their integrated electronic medical records system. The hospital did a side by side comparison of MedHx(SM) and their existing feed, and determined that MedHx(SM) provided superior results, which reduced staff time spent on medication reconciliation, improved patient safety and enabled the hospital pharmacy, as well as doctors and nurses, to be more proactive in pulling medication history upon patient admission.

In its most basic form, a runbook is an electronic or physical document that lists detailed procedures for handling every expected situation that an IT system may experience. Based on changes in system condition, incoming requests and other factors, system administrators determine which procedures to run and when to run them. Runbook procedures often include complex decision trees that indicate specific steps to follow depending on answers to pre-established questions.
Administrators are responsible for performing the appropriate steps of the procedure in painstaking detail, often by manually issuing commands to components and sub-systems. Primitive runbooks are notoriously inefficient, inflexible and error prone, sometimes relying on undocumented steps known to just a few staff members. Yet, if a critical step is missed or an incorrect
command is entered, the entire process may be negatively impacted.
Electronic health records (EHRs) are necessary, but were not designed to anchor population health management (PHM). This is partly because they lack semantic interoperability, which is the ability of disparate information systems to share data and enable communications among users in a meaningful way.

Our client offered electronic money transfer services. For years they had provided the digital links and the networks of agents that enabled people to send money quickly and easily around the world. But digital technology introduced a number of challenges to their business. Not only were pure digital payment companies threatening the agent-based model, but their business models had lower operating costs than a network of physical agents. Also, other technologies such as virtual money transfer via blockchain were being more widely adopted. In addition, industry mergers strengthened competitors, while increased protectionism began to reduce the number of migrant workers - the core customers of our client.
The digital world was looking like a difficult place to operate in.

The challenge for Queens Pediatrics was the small size of its offices, which didn’t provide enough room for multiple workstations or to move mobile computer carts through the hallways. “There were only two options. The physicians either had to use a laptop or we had to have a PC in each room, and that doesn’t work well in a pediatric office,” said Janette Finn, the Practice Manager at Queens Pediatrics.

In this paper a high performance equalizing serial data link is measured and the performance is compared to that predicted by simulation.
