The use of analytics has exploded across business, and the value it already has delivered has heightened executives' expectations. Now data can be processed in real time to meet a constantly widening range of analytic needs. How your organization utilizes them in the next decade will be essential to your success. These developments come at an opportune time. Organizations are being over-whelmed by the rivers of data generated by applications and systems on-premises or flowing in via the cloud. At the same time, the cost of computational power has declined dramatically, making it practical to apply analytics to and generate information on just about anything. But no advance comes without challenges. While the widespread availability of analytics has created seemingly valuable insights, executives and managers are finding that those insights are not easily linked to steps that will improve business outcomes or optimize actions. Furthermore, analytics are not always easy for line of b

MongoDB is an open-source, document database designed with both scalability and developer agility in mind. MongoDB bridges the gap between key-value stores, which are fast and scalable, and relational databases, which have rich functionality. Instead of storing data in rows and columns as one would with a relational database, MongoDB stores JSON documents with dynamic schemas. Customers should consider three primary factors when evaluating databases: technological fit, cost, and topline implications. MongoDB's flexible and scalable data model, robust feature set, and high-performance, high-availability architecture make it suitable for a wide range of database use cases. Given that in many cases relational databases may also be a technological fit, it is helpful to consider the relative costs of each solution when evaluating which database to adopt.

In recent years, data has had a resurgence being labeled as one of the newer trends in education. The reality is data and schools go hand in hand. The concept of collecting and utilizing data in education dates back as early as the 1800’s. So, what’s different and why now? Is it the increased availability, a better understanding of its potential, or signs that a long-awaited paradigm shift may be coming? I would argue it’s a combination of all three. Your enterprise runs its critical applications on Oracle Databases, and as an enterprise IT leader, maintaining the performance and availability of your databases is among your top priorities. Any degradation in performance or loss of data could result in serious business disruption and loss of revenue, so protecting this vital asset is a must. There are many causes of data loss— administration errors, system or media failures, cyberattacks, and more—but we often overlook design flaws in the very systems meant to protect data: general-purpose backup systems. Many existing data protection solutions fail to meet the demands of critical databases because they treat them as generic files to copy as opposed to specialized resources. Taking a generic approach to database backup and recovery not only exposes you to the risk of data loss, it also negatively impacts performance and makes it difficult to recover within acceptable timeframes.

Traditional backup systems fail to meet the needs of modern organizations by focusing on backup, not recovery. They treat databases as generic files to be copied, rather than as transactional workloads with specific data integrity, consistency, performance, and availability requirements. Additionally, highly regulated industries, such as financial services, are subject to ever?increasing regulatory mandates that require stringent protection against data breaches, data loss, malware, ransomware, and other risks. These risks require fiduciary?class data recovery to eliminate data loss exposure and ensure data integrity and compliance

Imagine you’re running a factory but without a supply chain management system or industrial controls. Instead, you expect your customers to find and fix your delivery and quality problems. Sound ludicrous? Well, in many enterprises that’s the current “supply chain management” process for big and fast data. It relies on the lightly monitored dumping of unsanitized data into a data lake or cloud store, forcing data scientists and business users to deal with failures from data availability and accuracy issues.

Security for that network must also be highly available and not cause performance degradation of the network. The increased workload of security devices as they analyze traffic and defend users from malicious attacks strains computing resources. The next generation of security solutions must build in high availability that can scale as the business changes. The digital revolution is transforming every industry. Yet it also brings new challenges: threats to the security and Availability of mission-critical data and services. Approximately 80% of IT decision-makers say their organization has an Availability gap, that is, a failure to meet recovery requirements—a common issue across all industries. 75% say they also have a data protection gap, meaning they are unable to protect their data frequently enough to ensure that business units’ expectations against data loss are being met.
