As the dictionary defines it, “hybrid” simply means something made by combining two different elements. In modern IT, hybrid usually describes a mixture of on-premises and cloud-based resources. In data protection, a hybrid approach might mean combining methods or combining media.
There are very few “pure” environments in IT anymore. Not too many organizations rely on just one type of storage platform. Few IT infrastructures use servers made by just one vendor. Converged and hyperconverged infrastructure appliances have increasingly become important building blocks of a modern IT ecosystem.
