Traditional Enterprise Content Management (ECM) tools have failed to get the widespread adoption that was originally envisioned for them. Long implementations, poor user experience, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), consumer apps, and other factors have led to the perceived demise of legacy ECM platforms (e.g., OpenText, Oracle, IBM, EMC, Microsoft) — enter Enterprise File Sync and Share (EFSS) tools.

With more than 100 EFSS vendors currently in the market, some of whom are legacy ECM vendors, these consumer-oriented tools are poised to deliver what ECM couldn’t. This report will discuss why EFSS tools will be the next- generation content management platforms. We’ll also briefly explore the emergence of Information Governance and how ECM delivers some of the required functionality.
